Zip-Zoom: Straight to the Moon is the first full game developed at Red Star One.
Built using the Scratch programming language, Zip-Zoom, while simple, does show off the RSO philosophy of fun and also we believe it's quite a good game made in Scratch (If we do say so ourselves!)
Players take control of Commander Zip Zoom as he embarks on his greatest mission of all. To get to the Moon! Players will navigate through a selection of levels to build their spacecraft and eventually take off for the moon itself.
However the game may not end there!
Zip Zoom was the eventual winner of many different game ideas RSO had at the time our brief was given. We wanted to create something fun and enjoyable while also being simple enough to create, and create well, in our 8 week timescale.
Now that the game is complete using Scratch, RSO have been looking at ways of expanding the IP. Our first port of call will be to recreate Zip Zoom using C++ which can then be ported to X-Code for mac. This will enable us to have a much greater control over details in the game but with X-Code, we can also rebuild the game for release as an App on iTunes.
We believe an episodic content model would work well and may be used in the future as we have many ideas for sequels and follow ups.
Full game design document for Zip Zoom is located here and you can also download the Scratch Project files here for play at home here (Scratch program required)
Other Projects:
Pro Dart:
We are currently, in collaboration with Burning Hills Design, working on a darts simulation written in C++. The brief for the programme was that it must simulate a full game of darts with some random chance thrown in to handle missing your target.
Currently the programme is about half way complete and we are working through problems and situations as they arise.
The programme will be available after the 22nd of December.
UDK and Unity
We are currently looking at both Unity3D the Unreal Development Kit and the OGRE Engine for creating further projects. We have the ideas but have not chosen a platform to create them on as yet. This project, as it will be quite substantial in terms of work and time, will be a collaboration with Burning Hills Design and also with Dark Arts Development.
Casual Games
In line with our ambition to release on iPhone/iPod Touch we have been looking at casual games, specifically those written in Flash for browser and also for apps. We can see the huge potential in these games just like any other developer but we will be taking the view that these will be additional projects to our main ones and will be released either free or at a low price.
We are looking at word games and short puzzle games to begin with. But, they will be Fun!
